UD223 Urban Design and Development Studio: Urban Intervention

Year 2, Undergraduate.

Our Empowerment for you

The UD223 Urban Intervention Studio empowers students to be able to analyze and develop meaningful strategies for improving the urban condition of a specific place. Particularly, the studio emphasizes urban design as a process of interrelated stages, encompassing urban mappings, SWOT analysis, and strategies for a masterplan, all working with the principle of layers which can be synthesized, integrated, and interrogated.

This year...

The project is about Promoting the Learning City in the Thanyaburi District of Pathum Thani, Thailand, in relation to the urban commons, particularly the natural and built amenities, and how they can provide not only a strong sense of place, but also a common ground whereby citizens can exchange ideas and celebrate differences in exercising the ‘right to the city’ (Occupy Commons, HKIA Journal Occupy Commons, no. 73, 2017).

How

The students thoroughly investigated the inter-relations between the ecologies of the water, green spaces, socio-cultural and historical identity, along with the future impacts of the Khlong Rangsit area in Thanyaburi District. From analyzing these ecologies, students identified key strategic opportunities to promote new ways of engaging with the water as a shared urban resource in the production of community, new economic activities, identity, and a learning city.
